Converting logs

The Log Conversion tool is accessible from both the 1d Model > Log Composition and 1d Model > Lithology sub-strips, as well as via the Workspace > Tools drop down. Use the Log Conversion form to perform one of four types of log conversions. The resulting log is available in the JewelExplorer under the Well Data > All Logs folder, under the corresponding log type.

To convert logs

  1. Select the Wellbore you want to convert the logs for from the drop-down list.
  2. After you select the wellbore, click on the icon next to the drop-down list to open the Well Datum Settings form. Verify the well datum settings on the dialog.
  3. For Conversion type, select one of the conversion types and associated output log type. Use the arrow button , between the log types, to change the source and target of the conversion. For example, select the Velocity to Slowness conversion to convert a velocity log to a slowness log. Click the arrow button to reverse the relationship, converting a slowness log to a velocity log. The arrow button is updated , showing the conversion direction.
  4. From Logs to convert, select which logs are listed in the table below:
    • All well logs  All logs associated with the wellbore are listed.
    • Case logs only  All logs associated with the case selected in the drop-down list directly below are listed.
    • All logs except logs from the case  Lists all logs, except the ones for the case selected in the drop-down list directly below.
  5. If you are unsure which logs are case logs of the source case, you can use the Case Logs viewer for an overview.

  6. From the table, which is populated based on the type of conversion and according to your selection in the previous step, you can select one log or multiple logs to perform multiple conversions simultaneously.
  7. Click Apply to start the conversion and keep the form open, or click OK to start the conversion and close the form.
Important  In case of changes to the well datum settings, converted EMW logs update automatically. It is important to note, however, that any EMW logs created directly as a result of the workflow process will not update automatically. These EMW logs need to be recalculated by returning to the form they were created in and running the algorithm again.

After conversion, the log is available in the JewelExplorer under the All Logs folder, under the corresponding log type. An identifier is appended to the converted logs. For example, a velocity log is converted to slowness has slow appended to its name.

If the log data or the name of the 'input' log change, the converted log is automatically updated as well.
