Sanding Analysis

With the Sanding Analysis strip (solids production > Sanding Analysis) you can perform the following two main tasks:

  • Sanding evaluation, to detect intervals where sanding occurs by means of sanding evaluation logs, which are depth logs for a production interval where the rock strength is known, under reservoir-pressure condition. The following three 'main' logs are created: the Load Factor log, the Critical Drawdown Pressure log and the Critical Bottomhole Flowing Pressure log. These output logs can be calculated for open hole and cased hole situations.
  • Sanding quantification, to calculate the amount (the mass) of produced sand. In case of open hole, first the 'plastic zone' (the area around the wellbore that produces sand due to plasticity of the rock) is calculated.

You can perform sanding evaluation and sanding quantification for multiple production scenarios, i.e. different pressure conditions in the wellbore, by providing multiple Drawdown pressures and Depletion pressures. Outputs are generated per each production scenario.

To perform sanding quantification of a cased hole, you have to specify multiple perforation orientation scenarios. In a cased hole, sand is not produced from the plastic area around the wellbore, instead solids are coming through the perforations. For this reason you have to provide multiple different perforation orientation scenarios, so that the optimal distribution (or placement) of perforations can be found.
