Comparing observed breakouts

Using the Observed Breakouts form (Wellbore Stability > Calibrate > Observed Breakouts), you can compare the breakouts predicted in the Check Mud Weight workflow form with imported or created observed breakouts in the Observed Breakouts view. The form also provides access to the Observed Breakouts Editor, where you can create, import and modify breakout data.

  1. All available measured breakouts are displayed in the Observed Breakouts list. Check the box for each of the breakouts you want to compare. If you wish to create or import a breakout, click the Create/Show button just below the list. This opens the Observed Breakout Editor. You can manually enter observed breakout data in the editor, paste it in from another application or choose to import the data. The editor also contains some additional log creation and reference options, see the Observed Breakout Editor section for details on creating, importing and modifying breakout data with the editor.
  2. Select the caliper log that you want to visualize alongside the breakout data in the Observed Breakouts view.
  3. Specify the options related to the visualization of the breakout data:

Calculated breakouts, using reference  Displays calculated breakouts in the view using the specified reference: GEO (geological north), TOH (top of hole) or BOH (bottom of hole). Note that the reference conversion acts only on the calculated breakouts.

Observed breakouts  Displays the imported and/or created breakouts selected in the list at the top of the form. If this option is not checked, only the calculated breakouts are displayed.

  4. The Generated Logs section of the form shows read-only data on the calculated logs that will be displayed in the Observed Breakout view. The two calculated logs represent breakout position and breakout width data. When you are ready to visualize the calculated and created/imported breakout data in the Observed Breakout view, click Show/Refresh.
You can edit the display settings of the predicted breakouts track in the Observed Breakouts View using the Inspector. To open the Inspector, go to Workspace > Panes. Click on the settings icon to activate the settings tab. Then left mouse click once in the predicted breakouts track to list the settings that you can adjust.
