Specifying well datum settings

The Well Datum Settings form (DATA > Static Data > Well Datum Settings or WELLBORE STABILITY > Setup > Well Datum Settings) enables you to define basic well settings for any well in your solution. Depending on the type of well, only some of the parameters can be manually defined, while others become inactive. For example, the 'Water depth' parameter becomes inactive when an Onshore well is specified. Likewise, 'Ground level' becomes inactive when an Offshore well is specified. As a guide to how your values should be entered on the form, some of the parameters have brief notes below the text field, indicating how positive values should be used.

To specify the settings for a well

  1. Select the active wellbore.
  2. Specify Offshore or Onshore for the well type. Depending on your selection, you can then define the following:

    • KB/RT/Dfe
    • Tie in TVDSS
    • Air gap
    • Water depth
    • Ground level
    • Water table
    • Water density

For the Air gap (AG), Water depth (WD), Ground level (GL) and Water table (WT) parameters a positive value indicates a position above or below sea level as follows:

    • AG - positive indicates above SL/GL
    • WD - positive indicates below SL
    • GL - positive indicates above SL
    • WT - Positive indicates below SL

Following these guides, for example, an onshore well drilled at a location below sea level will have a negative value for Dfe and GL.
