Shifting Logs

With the Shift Logs tool (via the context menu of the log: Tools and Operations > Shift Logs) you can apply a depth shift (i.e. bulk shift, no stretching or shrinking) to one or multiple logs of a wellbore. Depth shift can be done in MD or TVDSS. You can shift multiple logs per wellbore in one go.

If you have a well group in the Well Data folder, you can select it. It will act as a filter in the wellbore list. Note that the selected log will be shifted for the selected wellbore in all well groups where the wellbore exists (including 'All wells'), not only in the selected well group.

To shift a log

  1. Open the Shift Logs form (via the context menu of the log: Tools and Operations > Shift Logs).
  2. Enter the required data:

Well group   If you have a well group in the Well Data folder, you can select it. It will act as a filter on the next drop-down list 'Well'.

Well  Select the well that contains the log(s) that you want to shift.

Wellbore  Select the wellbore that contains the log(s) that you want to shift.

Logs   In the table, select the log(s) that you want to shift. All logs (discrete, continuous) under the wellbore are available for shifting.

Reference  Select whether the depth shift is in MD or in TVD. When TVD is selected, cluttering of data points originally located along the more or less horizontal parts of the well is prevented by checking if the TVD is a repeated value. If this is true, the log value is discarded and not available in the shifted log.

Depth shift  Specify the distance over which the log(s) need to be shifted. Positive values mean increasing depth.

Log suffix  The new log(s) are created with the specified name <name of the source log>_Shifted, but you can change it if you want. If you remove the suffix entirely, the non-shifted log(s) will be overwritten, but you will be prompted with a warning first.

  3. Click Apply or OK to shift the log(s). The new log will be created for the individual wellbores under Well Data > Wells, and can also be found under Well Data > All Logs.
