Graphically editing perforations, markers, targets and sidetracks
After you have created wells, perhaps the most convenient way to adjust them and finalize their designs is to use the set of tools on the floating palette (Workspace > Tools > Editing Tools on the right of the Strip). With these, you can edit wells, wellbores, target points, perforations, markers in your 3D View.
The tools you will see in the floating palette depend on the object you have selected (either in your 3D View or the JewelExplorer). And, for some of the tools, additional settings appear when you select the tool.
Editing perforations
You can add, move, and delete both markers and perforations.
To add a perforation to a wellbore, click on the wellbore in the 3D View, then click on the Add Perforation
tool on the floating palette. Now click on the wellbore in your 3D View at the start and end positions of the perforation. The wellbore will turn yellow between the points you clicked to indicate the position of the perforation.
To move a perforation along a wellbore, click on the Move Perforation
tool and then on the perforation you want to move. Press Ctrl, now the start and end of the perforation are indicated by green and red spheres. Hold down the Ctrl key and drag either or both spheres to adjust the position and length of the perforation.
To remove a perforation, click on the Delete Perforation
tool and then on the perforation you want to delete. The perforation is removed from the wellbore.
Editing well markers
You can easily add, reposition and remove markers from wellbores using the tools on the floating palette.
To add a marker, in the 3D view click on the wellbore you want to add the marker to and click the Create Marker
tool. The Settings section of the floating palette will open. In this section you can select the marker set, type and color for the new marker, and provide a name. If the marker is a fluid contact, you can also specify the fluid above and below the marker. Once this information has been provided, click on the wellbore where you want to position the new marker. The marker will appear on the wellbore and is also added to the marker set folder in the JewelExplorer.
To move a marker along a wellbore, click on the marker you want to move and then select the Pick Marker
tool. Click (don't drag) on the wellbore where you want to relocate the marker; the marker is moved to the new position.
To remove a marker, right-click on it in the 3D view or JewelExplorer and select the Delete. After confirming you want to delete the marker, it is removed from your solution.
Editing targets
You can easily add, reposition and remove targets from wellbores using the tools on the floating palette.
To add a target, in the 3D view click on the wellbore you want to add the target to and click the Add Target
tool. Then click on the wellbore where you want to position the new target.
Move Target
tool allows you to move the selected target of the wellbore in the 3D view. Select the target and then select the tool. Click on the wellbore where you want the target to be moved. The target moves to the new position. You can also click on any representative surface (e.g. 3D grid, horizon, fault) to the move the position of the target. In addition, you can perform following operations to move the target:
- To move a target over a controlled distance along the wellbore, press Ctrl and click on the target. A guide bar appears along which you can drag the target in forward or backward direction. Switch on the probe tool to show the offset distance from the original target position.
- To move the target along the north, east or depth directions, click on the target you want to move and then select the tool. Hold down the N (north), E (east) or D (depth) key and drag the target along the guide bar that appears.
- To move the target along the north-east, north-depth, or east-depth planes, click on the target you want to move and then select the tool. Hold down the NE (north-east), ND (north-depth) or ED (east-depth) keys and drag the target along the guide lines that appears. The connecting dotted line shows the offset of new target location from the original position.
Move Target of Horizontal Section
tool allows you to move all the targets of the well plan along the designed well path or at a location on a representative surface (e.g. 3D grid, horizon, fault). Select a target and then select the tool. Click on the position along the wellbore where you want to move the targets. For a horizontal well, the direction of movement is along the guide bar drawn between the heel and the toe. If the target is not the heel or the toe, a guide bar perpendicular to this line is drawn along which you move the target. In addition, you can perform following operations to move the target:
- To move the target(s) horizontally along the plane of the wellbore, hold Ctrl and click on a target. A guide bar appears, parallel to the plane of the wellbore, along which you can drag the target. This will move all the targets in the wellbore relative to their original position. Switch on the probe tool to show the offset distance from the original target position.
- To move the target(s) perpendicular to the plane of the wellbore, hold Shift and click on a target. A guide bar appears along which you can drag the target. This will move all the targets in the wellbore relative to their original position. Switch on the probe tool to show the offset distance from the original target position.
To remove a target, right click in your 3D view on the target you want to remove in and then select Delete from the context menu. After confirming you want to delete the target, it is removed from your solution.
Adding sidetracks
You can easily add a sidetrack to a well at the kick-off point. To do this, click on a wellbore in your 3D view and select the Add Sidetrack
tool. The floating palette automatically switches to the Add Target tool. Click repeatedly at the positions where you want your well targets to define the trajectory of the sidetrack.
