UCS = 6695 e(e ´ 1.86E – 7)

where:

6695 is in psi.

1.86 is in 1/psi.

E is static Young modulus.

This equation is derived from a synthesis of published data using 86 samples with measured UCS of 300–44,000 psi and static Young’s modulus between 320,000 and 9,425,000 psi, representing a wide range rock strength and elastic modulus. The equation is based on static data; therefore, its applicability to well logs is limited to rocks with Estatic » Edynamic, or when the dynamic-static correction factor is known.
