Unicode in JewelSuite Geomechanics

Unicode characters are supported and can be displayed in most of the user interface, from the JewelExplorer and Inspector pane to the various views used throughout the application. The import process for *.LAS files and *.txt files also supports the use of Unicode characters, as does the export process for ASCII log files. However, the use of Unicode characters is not supported in the Property Calculator or the simulator input views. See the following sections for further details.

Import and export support for Unicode

Unicode characters can be used when importing *.LAS log files and *.txt files. During the import process, Unicode characters are printed to the screen as expected and are visible throughout the data selection and data validation steps. Once imported, the Unicode characters are retained and displayed as expected throughout the application user interface.

Unicode characters are also supported in the well data and log data (*.log.ascii) export processes, allowing you to export files containing these characters in both the internal data and as the file name.

Areas without Unicode support

The use of Unicode characters is not supported in the Property Calculator or the input tables for the IMEX™, GEM™, and ECLIPSE™ reservoir simulators.

For the Property Calculator, an error message is encountered when attempting a calculation that includes the use of Unicode characters. As a result of this error the calculator operation cannot be completed. It is possible, however, to rename the item of interest using ASCII characters, perform your calculation, then rename the recalculated item with Unicode characters once again.

For each of the reservoir simulators, IMEX™, GEM™, and ECLIPSE™, Unicode characters are not supported as these characters are not parsed by the simulators. When naming cases, case components, or working in the various data entry tables (such as the PVT view pictured above) Unicode characters are not supported and will cause the simulation to fail.
