Using the Data strip

You import and export data using the Data strip, which is divided into a number of different sub-strips for different types of data. Within each sub-strip you will find the import and export options for that particular type.

Importing data

You can import a variety of data formats, including ASCII files, data from other applications, and data from external sources. The import process is initiated from the Data strip, and is designed to aid you in easily and efficiently importing data into your project and allows you to make best use of your entire suite of data. Application specific ASCII, spreadsheet, and XML-based file formats are also available for you to use.

For more information, see Types of data you can import.

Using the data connectors

You can connect to and import IHS Kingdom®, ArcGIS™, WITSML™ and Petrel™ data via the Connectors sub-strip. Each of these services is represented by an 'Inbound' interface that allows you to connect, search, and sort through data prior to executing the import process. These data connectors have been designed with a lossless data transfer method, ensuring that all updates made to your imported objects remain captured within your project in the event of a server disconnection.

Apart from connecting to real-time data through a WITSML™ server, you can export WITSML™ data via the WITSML Outbound form, accessible in the WITSML™ button group of the Connectors sub-strip.

Exporting data

Export options are available within the data strip and can be found in the Export button group of their respective sub-strip. Clicking any of the export icons opens a form in which you can specify the export location and data to be exported. In most cases you may also specify a prefix or append a suffix to the export file name for organizational purposes.
