Constructing a JewelGrid

As the final step in creating a 3D grid using the workflow on the 3D Grid strip, you set up and create a JewelGrid based on surfaces and the building sequence that have been defined in the Structural model and the settings specified on the previous workflow steps.

To construct the JewelGrid

  1. Open the Construct JewelGrid form (Model > 3D Grid > Construct 3D Grid).
  2. When you open this form using the workflow, the 3D grid is automatically selected. Otherwise, select a grid from the 3D grid drop-down list. Note that if you select an existing grid that it will be recreated. This also means that all the existing grid properties the will be deleted.
  3. Click OK to create the JewelGrid. The gridding process will create, for each grid cell in the model, the following properties (in addition to the default set of geometrical properties): SegmentID, Cell Top Depth and Stratigraphic Cell Thickness.

The status bar indicates that the JewelGrid is being created. Once created, it appears under 3D Grids in the JewelExplorer.

3D Grids created with the 3D grid workflow get an icon with a cogwheel . The cogwheel indicates that the 3D grid has settings, which means that when you select it in any of the 3D Gridding workflow forms, the last applied settings are restored on the form.
Important  From the 2024.3 version onward, the 'Construct 3D Grid' step inserts surfaces in the same order as the 'Construct Surfaces' step in Structural Modeling. It is recommended to rerun the 'Construct Surfaces' step, so that the 3D Grid can retrieve the order of the surfaces. Otherwise you can continue with the existing order, but be aware that in rare cases this can lead to artifacts.
