Creating fluid logs from markers

The Fluid Modeling workflow requires fluid logs to derive the various fluid contacts, fluid-up-to and fluid-down-to levels for the compartments defined in the fluid model. In situations where fluid logs are not available, the Create Fluid Log form (model > Fluids) can be used to generate a fluid log from a marker set. The surface type of this marker set is required to be 'fluid contact'. A fluid model can also be considered during the creation of the fluid log. Adding a fluid model to the calculation constrains the fluid log to the fluid compartments defined in the model. If a recalculation of the fluid log is required, existing fluid logs can also be rewritten by using this form. You can select either the entire marker set or individual markers of interest.

Note that the fluid markers that are input in this tool have likely been derived from a fluid log set in a petrophysical workflow. This tool attempts to reconstruct these original fluid logs and this will greatly affect the overall accuracy. It is therefore recommended, if at all possible, to use the original fluid log set instead of the logs reconstructed from the fluid markers with this tool.

To create a fluid log from a marker set

  1. Select an existing log for recalculation or select Create new and provide a name in the adjacent text box for a new fluid log.
  2. Select the input marker set.
  3. If you want to constrain the calculation of the fluid log by fluid compartments, select a fluid model.
  4. The 'Markers' table is populated based on the selected marker set. Check the box for each of the markers that you want to consider during the calculation of the fluid log.
  5. Click Apply to create the log and keep the form open for additional calculations, or click OK to create the log and close the form. The resulting log is available in the JewelExplorer under Well Data > All Logs > Fluid Type and is ready for use in the fluid model.
