Resampling surfaces

If you want to apply a different resolution to a particular 2D grid or resample a derived tri-mesh, you can use the Resample Data form in the Tools button-group of the prepare > Seismic strip. In principle, the Resample Data form works the same as the Assign data form in the workflow, except that in the Assign data form, all tri-meshes and 2D Grids are resampled to a common resolution, while the Resample Data form works on selected surfaces only.

To resample a surface

  1. Open the Resample Data form (prepare > Seismic > Resample Data).
  2. From the Interpretation drop-down list, select the seismic interpretation. This selection will populate the table underneath with all surfaces available in the selected seismic interpretation.
  3. Set the target resolution by selecting the appropriate Inline/Crossline factors in the Factor fields.
  4. Check the checkbox of the surface you want to resample, and select the input representation in the Representation column. For more information on resampling, see Assigning data to a seismic interpretation.
  5. A warning message appears when the 2D grid resolution is coarser than the target resolution, since the resampling process will in this case introduce undefined values in your 2D grid.
  6. In the Output Surface column, select the output representation.
    • For horizons and unconformities you can choose between 2D grid or polyline set. However, for faults and intrusions the output representation is always a polyline set.
    • Note that the output surface representation (e.g. a polyline set) will always overwrite any existing representation (for the same event), even when that existing representation is different (e.g. 2D grid).
  7. Click Apply or OK to resample the selected data.
