Creating the surface definition

With the Create Surface Definition form (prepare > Surfaces > Create Surface > Create Surface Definition) you create a surface definition which is the container holding all the selections and settings that you specify in the workflow steps. The output surface will carry the same name and will be written to the output folder you select on the form. If a surface with the same name and representation already exists in the chosen output folder, it will be overwritten (you will be prompted with a warning upon construct).

To create a new surface definition

  1. Surface definition  Select 'Create new' and enter the name of the surface definition in the entry field below.
  2. Folder  Select the folder where the constructed surface will be stored. You can choose from the Data folder and Surface Sets folders in the JewelExplorer.
  3. Surface type  Select which type of surface you want to create: a fault, horizon, unconformity or intrusion.
  4. Representation  Select the representation of the output surface, either 2D grid or tri-mesh (a fault can only have a tri-mesh representation in this workflow).
  5. Click Apply at the base of the form to save the settings and keep the form open, or click OK and move to the next step of the workflow, Assign Data.
