Creating a 2D grid with the context menus

There are two different scenarios that allow you to create a 2D grid with the Create Object form. The Create Object form can be opened by selecting 'Create Object' on the Seismic Interpretation, Data folder or Surface Set folder context menus in the JewelExplorer.

Creating a 2D grid in a Seismic Interpretation in the JewelExplorer

Depending on the depth domain of your seismic volume, the 2D grid will be created in either the depth or time domain.

  1. Select the Seismic Interpretation in the JewelExplorer and use the context menu to open the Create Object form.
  2. On the Create object form, type a name and select the Seismic Interpretation as the output folder.
  3. On the lower part of the form, select Horizon in the 'Type' field, and select 2D grid as representation.
  4. The area box is inactive, the area of the seismic volume your seismic interpretation belongs to will be used.
  5. Click Apply or OK to create the 2D grid. The 2D grid will be available under the Seismic Interpretation folder in the JewelExplorer, but does not contain any data points.

To add nodes to the 2D grid:

  1. Open the Editing Tools (Tools > Editing Tools).
  2. Select the surface you have created with the Create Object form.
  3. Use the editing tools to manually track your seismic trace data. For more info on how to use these tools, see Structural interpretation of seismic data.

Creating a 2D grid in the Data folder or Surface Set folder

Without an area it is impossible to create a 2D grid. If you do not have an area inside your solution yet, you can create one using the Tools > Area Tool option.

  1. On the Create object form, type a name and select Surface Set as the output folder.
  2. On the lower part of the form, select a type that can be represented by a 2D grid, and select 2D grid as representation.
  3. Select an area from the drop-down list.
  4. Click Apply or OK to create the 2D grid. The 2D grid will be available under the selected output folder in the JewelExplorer, but does not contain any data points.

To add nodes to the 2D grid

  1. Open the Property Calculator (Tools > Property Calculator).
  2. Select the surface you have created with the Create Object form.
  3. In the Expression window, type in a depth for the surface.
  4. Select Depth as the property from the drop-down list under Name.
  5. Click OK to create the depth property. The 2D grid will be immediately displayed in the 3D View with the created property selected.
