Editing point sets

You can create points by clicking on displayed objects, in empty space outside objects or in an empty view. For how to use the tools on a particular point set, see Graphical editing with the floating palette.

The floating palette (Tools > Editing Tools at the right of the Strip) contains a range of tools for creating new data or editing the geometry of surfaces represented as point sets by adding, removing and moving nodes (points). You can use these tools on a point set in a 3D View.

Use the shortcut keys to quickly select and switch between tools.

Add Node  (Shortcut key: Ctrl+W) Add a new node to a point set. Select the point set to which you want to add the new node and then select the tool. To add a node click either on an object, in empty space or in an empty view. Adding nodes in empty space or in empty view before clicking on any object, places the nodes at zero depth. After clicking on an object, any new node is then set at the depth of the last click on the object.

Important  In case you are adding nodes in empty space, it is recommended to set the view to 'View from Top' or at a slight angle. To do this, use the 'View from Top' option in the 3D View toolbar. In general, the more you rotate your view towards the side (e.g. 'View from West' or 'View from East' ) the higher the chance of the new nodes to not be at the location where you clicked. In this case, click the reset icon in the 3D View toolbar to reset your view and visualize the newly added data.

Remove Node  (Shortcut key: Ctrl+Q) Remove a node. Select the point set then select the tool. Click on the node you want to remove. Use Ctrl+Shift and drag to remove multiple nodes under a rectangle.

Move Node  (Shortcut key: M) Move a node. Select the point set then select the tool. Click on the node you want to move, or use Ctrl+Shift+click and drag to select multiple nodes (the node(s) will be highlighted in the view). Hold down the Ctrl key along with the E, D, or N key and drag the node(s) to move them along the East, Depth or North axes respectively. Hold down the NE, ND or ED keys and drag the node(s) to move them along the North East plane, the North Depth plane or the East Depth plane.

Move Nodes to Other Point Set  (Shortcut key: O) Move a node from one point set to another. Make sure both point sets are visible in your view. Click on the node you want to move to the other point set (it is highlighted to indicate it is selected). Click the point set you want to include the selected node in. If the point sets are colored differently, the moved node changes color to indicate it is now part of a different point set. Selecting the same point set as destination will create a new point set with the same name followed by 1.
