Importing Abaqus simulation results

To import simulation results after a successful Abaqus simulation, the Abaqus output database (*.ODB file) must first be converted to files that JewelSuite can read. After conversion, these files can be imported into JewelSuite. Once imported they will appear in the JewelExplorer under 3D Meshes > your 3D mesh > Properties > your target folder name. During the conversion step, a Python script is run in Abaqus to write out report files (*.RPT) on disk. The import process reads these report files and does not require Abaqus to run.

This workflow involves functionality on two forms:

Both steps can also be run automatically after running the simulation from JewelSuite using the Run Simulations form.

When using Build Remote Deck, the conversion step Convert ODB to Results can be run on the remote device where the Abaqus simulation is run, as a step after simulation. After that, Import Results should be used on the device where JewelSuite runs.

Starting with JewelSuite Subsurface Modeling version 2026.1, this import approach replaces the previous import approach that used *.mesh3dproperties.ascii files. Abaqus *.ODB files from older simulations can still be imported using the new approach. However, depending on the simulation version, you may first need to convert the database to a newer version within Abaqus. If only the old *.mesh3dproperties.ascii files are available, or if you have a .zip archive containing these files, you can still import them manually. In the case of a .zip archive, unzip the files first. To import the files, go to DATA> 3D Meshes > 3D Mesh Property and select the full set of *.mesh3dproperties.ascii files. Use CTRL+A to select all files at once.
