PVT view

PVT data contains a list of one or more PVT regions. The PVT region numbers are specified with the 3D grid property, associated with the keyword PTYPE for IMEX.

Black Oil PVT tables can be generated from a correlation.

The master table (located in the left panel of the view) for the PVT view is the PVT Region. Key fields for the PVT Region:

Active  Determines whether PVT region is active. Inactive regions are not written to the deck.

Name  Name of PVT region. Used only in the application.

Region ID  A unique ID for each entry in the PVT view.

Important  Make sure you undertake the following rules before assigning the Region ID. An error message is displayed if a rule is broken.

1. The Region ID must have a value greater than or equal to 1.

2. The active Region ID numbers must start with 1 and have values increasing by 1.

3. Active models must not have unique Region ID numbers.

Set Model tab

The Set Model tab is where the fluid component model is chosen via the Model(MODEL) selection box.

When changing the fluid component model, different tabs in the PVT view become available depending on which model is selected.

Model (MODEL)  Sets the fluid component model. As noted in the description, different or additional tabs will become available depending on the selected model. For example, changing the selection from BLACKOIL to MISCG adds the PVTS Parameters and PVTS tabs to the view.

Initial Gas-Oil Ratio (GORINT)  The ratio only needs to be defined for the MISCG and MISNCG fluid component models.

Parameters tab

The Parameters tab defines the various settings for a PVT region. The ‘Table Using Gas Factor’ setting will switch the Gas Expansion Factor (EG) column to Gas Formation volume factor (BG) column or the Gas Compressibility Factor (ZG) column (those columns are not visible). The Parameters Tab also displays densities and water properties.

Oil phase viscosity pressure dependence (CVO)  Define the pressure dependence of oil viscosity for the PVT region. If no value is defined here, the default value is zero.

Under-saturated oil compressibility (CO)  Specify the oil compressibility for the region here.

Reservoir temperature (TRES)  The value for the reservoir temperature.

Datum Depth for Output Pressure (DATUMDEPTH)  For each region, this specifies the datum depth for output pressure.

Reference Pressure for Gas-Oil Capillary Pressure (REFPST)  The value for the reference pressure for gas-oil capillary pressure.

Subsection – Densities

In this subsection, specify the density values for oil, water, and gas, as well as the value for gas gravity.

Subsection – Water Properties

Water formation volume factor (BWI)  Specify the water formation volume factor at the reference pressure PRW.

Water compressibility (CW)  Specify the water compressibility.

Ref. pressure for water (REFPW)  Specify a value for the input of reference pressure.

Water viscosity (VWI)  The viscosity of water phase at the reference pressure.

Pressure dependence of water viscosity (CVW)  Specify the pressure dependence of water viscosity.

PVT Table tab

The PVT view only displays PVT tables that are necessary for a model type to work. The model type is specified in the Set Model tab in the PVT view.

The PVT Table tab is enabled when an oil and gas model is being used. Table entries must be in order of increasing pressure and should extend above the initial bubble point pressure. The surface tension is optional. The gas expansion factor (Eg) column can be switched out for Gas Formation volume factor (Bg), or gas compressibility factor (Z) in the Parameters Tab.

p[psi]  Pressure; required.

bo [rb/stb]  Formation volume factor; required.

eg [scf/stb]  Gas expansion factor. Displayed if ‘EG’ is selected on the Parameters tab.

Gas Expansion Factor  Defines the gas expansion factor.

DENSITY SOLVENT  Defines the solvent phase density at STC. A single solvent density is defined for the entire reservoir.

OMEGASG  Defines the input of gas and solvent mixing parameter.

MINSS  Controls the onset/loss of miscibility at low solvent saturations and low gas saturations. The discontinuity in fluid properties this causes is smoothed to improve convergence.

PVTS tab

The PVTS tab is enabled when pseudo-miscible model with chase gas or MISCG or MISCNG with chase gas is used. There can only be one PVTS Table for all the PVT Regions.
