Wide spacing of fault cutoff line nodes for highly curved faults

Fault surfaces showing prominent bends in their geometry may show fault cutoff lines having nodes with variable spacing. In these segments, the spacing between the nodes may be very large or may in extreme cases even lead to missing points.

Fault with an almost 90 degree bend with respect to its overall orientation. Note that the fault cutoff line nodes are spaced with large gaps on the curved segment. This is a projection artifact    click to enlarge

Where encountered

  • model > 3D Structure > Fault Cutoff Line Edits

Cause

The nodes of the fault cutoff lines are generated by a projection with respect to the overall orientation of the fault. Highly curved faults or circular structures are therefore not supported.

How to fix the issue

If the required edits are not achievable by the larger spaced nodes, you would need to either cut the fault into more segments or pursue a manual editing strategy for these segments.
