Collecting log files
When you experience issues with JewelSuite Subsurface Modeling, the support team may ask you to provide log files. These files contain information about what the application was doing when the issue occurred. This topic explains where to find log files and how to generate detailed trace logs.
Finding the log files
JewelSuite Subsurface Modeling stores log files in the following folder on your computer:
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Baker Hughes\Logs
To open this folder:
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type %localappdata%\Baker Hughes\Logs and press Enter.
The folder contains multiple .txt log files. Each time you start the application, at least two log files are created:
- An application log, for example: JewelSuite-[product]-[version]-[date] [time].txt
- A reporting log, for example: Reporting_JewelSuite_[product]_[version]_[date].txt
The file names include the product name, version number, and a date/time stamp. To find the files related to your issue, sort the folder by Date modified (click the Date modified column header in File Explorer) and look for the files that match the time when the problem occurred.
Creating a detailed trace log
By default, log files contain only basic information. If the support team asks for more detail, you can start the application with the -t option to generate a detailed trace log. This log captures additional information that helps diagnose the issue.
To create a trace log:
- Close JewelSuite Subsurface Modeling if it is running.
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type the following command and press Enter:
"C:\Program Files\Baker Hughes\JewelSuite Subsurface Modeling\2026.3\Subsurface Modeling\JewelSuite.exe" -t
If you installed JewelSuite Subsurface Modeling in a different location, replace the path with the actual path to the executable on your computer. - The application starts with detailed logging enabled.
- Reproduce the issue you experienced.
- Close the application.
The trace log file is saved to the same Logs folder described above.
Sharing log files with support
To share log files with the support team:
- Open the Logs folder using the steps described above.
- Sort the files by Date modified and select the application log and reporting log that match the time of the issue.
- Attach both files to an email and send it to the support team.
