Viewing the simulation case output

When the simulation job has finished, it produces various output data that will help you analyze reservoir performance and behavior. If you ran your simulation job via the Monitored tab (see the Run or Schedule form on the Simulation strip), the output data is automatically imported into the application. You can find it in the JewelExplorer, in a Properties folder under the relevant 3D Grid. Various tools to display and analyze this output are provided, including Production Data Views and 3D visualization.

Occasionally, you may need to manually load the output files, for example when you ran a scheduled simulation job (see the Run Simulations form on the Simulation strip). Each of the three reservoir simulators, IMEX™, GEM™, and ECLIPSE™, include an Import Results form for the purpose of loading output files in these situations. See the relevant simulator documentation for a description of the import form.

Output reports can contain a large number of lines. Press Ctrl-F to display a search window to find text strings in the report.

The output from the simulation comes in four forms:

  • Output report. A large text file containing a printable report of the simulation shown when the simulation completes.
  • Plot files. Files containing data for Production Data Views used to display and analyze this data.
  • Map files. Files containing data that becomes property data in the application. After the simulation is run and the results are imported, the property data appears in the JewelExplorer. You can then examine it in a 3D view.
  • Restart files. Files containing data used for restarting the simulation. Restart files are used as starting points for extending simulations. Often, a restart file represents the result of the history matching. Successive runs to explore development options start from the restart state. By default, no restart states are created for a simulation. The creation of restart states is specified in the General Settings view for the simulator. To use a restart state in another simulation, the simulation case that generated the restart state is referenced from the second simulation. This is done on the Simulation Case form of the workflow. The simulation case to be referenced must be in the same simulation case folder as the second simulation.

When the simulation job is complete, these files are moved to the working directory for the simulation.
