Appending data
Both wellbore and log data from a WITSML™ server can be appended to data already in your solution. When appending data you use the Existing option in the Connect To column of the WITSML Inbound view to specify which wellbore or log the incoming data will be appended to.
In some cases data between the two sources may overlap. When this occurs the WITSML™ data is used to replace the existing data. For example, if an existing log has a bottom depth of 1000m, and the WITSML™ log being appended has a range of 800m to 1200m, the WITSML™ log is appended beginning at 800m, thus, overwriting 200m of existing data.
Appending WITSML™ data
- During the import process for WITSML™ data, while working in the WITSML Inbound view, click into the Connect To column for the wellbore or log that you wish to append to your existing data. For wellbores, click into the Connect To column in the top pane of the view. For logs, first click the Logs tab and then click into the Connect To column in the bottom pane of the view.
- In the drop down box that appears, expand the drop down box for the Existing option and select the well or log you wish to append the data to.
- Complete the import process. After the Apply button is clicked the new data will be appended to the existing data.
Undefined values are treated as valid and are not overwritten during an append action.
