The Well Groups view

The Well Groups section is used to describe well groups.

WellGroup tab

The Well Group tab allows you to define the group or groups of wells for a simulation. Groups can be put into subgroups and are connected with the parent.

Active  When checked indicates that well is active. An inactive well is not written to the deck.

Name  Name of the Well Group.

Parent  Selects the parent using a combo box.

Definition Date  Assigns a time step to the well group.

Group Configuration tab

The Group Configuration tab allows you to define various settings for each well group. The Group Configuration tab includes sorting functionality, similar to the sort functionality found in the Manual Data Select Tab for Production Data views. If you wish to sort the groups in the view you can drag one of the column headers to the green area above the table to sort by that header. For example, you could drag the Time column header to sort all groups by their start time.

Group  Specify the group for the configuration.

Date/Time  Enter the date and time for the group.

MANIFOLD  Enable the manifold for the stream.

PCONMANIFOLD  Indicates that the group surface pressure constraint will be translated to a tubing-head pressure constraint.

ONTIME  The fraction of the time the group is on-line.

APPOR-METHOD  Specify the apportionment method.

GFUELMAXR  Enter the maximum fuel consumption rate.

GMKMAXR  Specify the maximum surface make-up rate.

GPHYDDEP  Specify the manifold depth for calculation pressure drop.

GPTABLE  Enter the tubing table number between the manifold and the surface.

WMKUPTO  Specify the water make-up target for the group.

WPRODGROUP  Specify the group from which the water and total production rates will be taken for water recycling/voidage replacement calculation.

WRECYMAXR  Enter the maximum make-up water rate.

Group Constraint tab

The Group Constraint tab allows you to define the constraints a well group will have. The production, injection and monitoring constraint (GCONP, GCONI, and GCONM respectively) types are defined in the Constraint column as well as GUIDEI and GUIDEP. Qualifiers, Types, and values are then filled depending on the options chosen.

Group  Specify the group for which you want to define the constraints.

Date/Time  Enter the date and time for the group.

Constraint  For group constraints, GCONP, GCONI, and GCONM are available in this column. To specify guide rates, GUIDEP and GUIDEI can be selected. GAPPOR is available if you wish to apportion a group’s rate target. See the list of constraints below for more information.

Mat/Frac  Only active if one of GCONP, GCONI, or GAPPOR is specified as the constraint. For each of these three constraints, a different set of options will be available in this column.

Type  Specify the type (subkeyword) for the constraint. The set of options in this column is dependent upon the Constraint and Qualifier combination. See the following table for a description of each keyword found in this column.

Value  Specify the value for the constraint.

Action  Select the action for the constraint. The list of options in this column is dependent upon the selection in the Constraint and Qualifier columns.

STOP  Indicates that the simulation should be stopped if the constraint is violated.

CONT  Indicates that the simulation should continue, even if the constraint is violated.

SHUTMOW  Indicates that the most offending layer in the most offending well should be shut if the GOR, WCUT, WGR, MAXGAS, or MAXSTW monitor is violated.

SHUTMOL  Indicates that the most offending well should be shut if the GOR, WCUT, WGR, MAXGAS, or MAXSTW monitor is violated.

SHUTMOLDOWN  Indicates that the most offending layer and all of the layers below it in the most offending well should be shut if the GOR, WCUT, WGR, MAXGAS, or MAXSTW monitor is violated.

SHUTMOLUP  Indicates that the most offending layer and all of the layers above it in the most offending well should be shut if the GOR, WCUT, WGR, MAXGAS, or MAXSTW monitor is violated.

SHUTMOWS  Indicates that a list of prioritized most offending wells (based on the wells with the great GOR, WCUT, or WGR) should be shut if the GOR, WCUT, WGR, MAXGAS, or MAXSTW monitor is violated.

SHUTALL  Indicates that all currently open wells in the group will shut if the monitored constraint is violated.

Order  Enter a value here for the order in which the constraint should be evaluated.

Constraints Subkeywords

BHF  Specify the bottom hole fluid rate.

BHG  Specify the reservoir gas rate.

BHW  Specify the reservoir water rate.

CPP  Specify a compressor pressure. Note that this constraint may only be applied if the group production is set as going through a manifold.

GAS  Used to indicate the phase for the connected production wells when either the *PMAINT or *RECYCLE qualifier is selected.

GCP  Specify the gas compressor pressure for injection. Note that the group must be defined as gas injection passing through a manifold.

GMKUP  Used to indicate that the gas phase is the make-up stream supplemented to meet the total voidage replacement fraction.

GMP  Specify the gas manifold pressure for injection. Note that the group must be defined as gas injection passing through a manifold.

MNP  Specify the manifold pressure. Note that this constraint may only be applied if the group production is set as going through a manifold.

Group Cycling tab

This tab is for use when running a simulation with alternating production and injection cycles. The Group Cycling tab consists of two sub-panels, Group Cycle Definition for specifying cycle settings, and Start/Stop Group Cycling for turning on and off the cycle and setting a start/stop date.

Group Cycling Definition

On this tab you can specify various options for the group cycle including basic cycling properties and cycle switching options. The main table in the view is dependent upon the selected group in the table in the left pane. Changes made to the definition in the main table only affect the active table.

Start/Stop Group Cycling

This tab is used to turn the group cycling process on or off, as well as define which group to cycle and the start/stop date for the cycle.
