Installing the JewelSuite Floating License Server

If you have configured a (Windows) Firewall on your license server, ensure you are putting in the right exclusions in order to start the license server. The license server will use 2 ports, a static port that is configured in the license file (10000) and a dynamic port chosen by lmgrd.exe.

The easiest way to configure the firewall is to configure joa.exe and lmgrd.exe as allowed programs that are not blocked by the firewall.

To setup a JewelSuite floating license server, follow these steps:

  1. Download the 'JewelSuite Floating License Executables for Windows' from the Baker Hughes Company download portal. Copy the executables to the license server you have received a license file for.
  2. Extract the zip file to a local folder on the server.
  3. JewelSuite uses the FlexNet Licensing license technology. The current version of JewelSuite uses FlexNet Licensing version 11.19.4.1.

To set up a new instance of a FlexNet License server:

  4. Copy the contents of the extracted folder to a common location
    (e.g. C:\Licensing\JewelSuite\11.19.4.1\).
  5. Copy the license file you received by email to the folder in which you extracted the floating license server tools.
  6. (Optional) By default, the JewelSuite license service is configured to use port 10000. If you prefer a different port, open the license file with a text editor and change the value of 10000 on the first line to your desired port number. This is the port that will need to be configured on end user computers.
  7. (Optional) By default, the vendor daemon will select a random port, some companies require this to be a static port to allow firewall exclusions.
To configure a static port, open the license file using a text editor and edit the 2nd line DAEMON joa, change this to DAEMON joa PORT=10001, or any other port of choice.
  8. Right click on lmtools.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  9. Click the Config Services tab and complete this tab as shown below.

Service Name  Set an appropriate name for the service, such as JewelSuite Floating License Service 11.19.4.1.

Path to the Imgrd.exe file  Set the path to lmgrd.exe using the first Browse button. lmgrd.exe is inside the C:\Licensing\JewelSuite\11.19.4.1\ folder.

Path to the license file  Use the second Browse button to set the path to the license file you received.

Path to the debug log file  Set the path to the log file using the third Browse button. By default, there is a JewelSuite license.log file in the directory that you can use.

Check both the Use Services and Start Server at Power Up checkboxes to make sure the license server starts automatically when the server reboots.
