Fracture modeling using the ConnectFlow™ connector
The ConnectFlow™ software is a multi-scale sub-surface modeling simulator designed for creating Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) models. It enables advanced characterization of fractured reservoirs, either independently or in combination with continuous porous media.
The DFN modeling approach in ConnectFlow™ uses a finite element computational method to explicitly model rock fractures. Each fracture is assigned unique geometric and hydraulic properties. DFN models are particularly effective for simulating fluid flow in reservoirs where interconnected fracture networks dominate the flow behavior.
The Simulation > ConnectFlow sub-strip in JewelSuite provides a guided workflow for creating a fracture model that incorporates 3D grid properties, faults, and wellbore fracture data from your solution. Once you build the fracture model, you can export it to the ConnectFlow™ software, and use the DFN modeling capabilities to characterize fracture properties in detail.
After importing the DFN model back into your solution, you can use the fracture properties to further refine the geological model, and simulate dual porosity and dual permeability systems.
